Modern interior mainly consists of two elements. One is architectural elements that divide spaces like partition walls. Another is furniture elements that decide purpose of the room such as facilities and furniture. So far, partition walls and facilities are fixed so that user can’t rearrange a room easily. In short, the interior has low variability. Therefore Atelier OPA designed Kenchikukagu, new product that combines partitions, facilities and furniture. It brings us variability in our living space.

What do you know about copper? Although each of us has an idea about this golden-looking material, probably no one can actually realize the real importance and the whole multiplicity of its uses. Art, design, architecture, industry and technology: all largely employ the copper. Its unique properties make this material simply irreplaceable. It is resistant. Yet it is ductile and malleable too. Thus while diligently serving for technical purposes in some engineering works, it can easily change the form under the master hand of an artist. ENG
I am just back from Moscow iSaloni. This is a kind of a Russian version of Italian Salone del mobile that takes place every April in Milan. I am sure architects and designers know what I mean. I went to see the Moscow iSaloni for the first time ever. This year it was (if I am not wrong) the 5th edition. Well, the first difference between Moscow and Milano is that the Moscow event seems to be open only to designer, architects and their (very rich) clients. General audience does not really care about it. Yeah, it is not like Milano that turns into a city full of events, happening, champagne, design and happy locals and foreigner guests strolling around the city for 1 week.

The Japanese always sell fruits piece by piece. They have long realized that each of them is a work of art. Thus, the Apple Throne is not a work of art. It is made to host a work of art.

No name design is a small yet suggestive exhibition at Triennale di Milano open from June, 19 to September 14. It explores and compares small and, in a way, trivial objects that, however, teach us a good design providing interesting and helpful hints. The collection of more than 1000 no-design objects investigates such topics as “mono-block mon amour” (monoblocco mon amour), “made and counterfeited” (fatto e contrafatto), “handles and grips” (per una buona presa), “hammer and mallet” (colpo su colpo), “open and close” (apri e chiudi), “parts to be connected” (parti da collegare), “as clear as daylight” (chiaro come il sole), “everything is inside” (tutto dentro), “big, small and big again” (grande, piccolo e di nuovo grande), “rethink it again” (nuovo? no, migliore) and many others… By Maria Novozhilova ENG
Kosovo pavilion at the 14th Venice Biennale is a spiky circular tower built from 692 wooden stools. Responding to the theme of the Biennale “Absorbing Modernity”, the curator Gëzim Paçarizi of the pavilion showed that the Modernity has actually never been absorbed in Kosovo. It was rather related to the Kosovos's political upheaval and, therefore, it was a synonym of destruction and imposed foreign aesthetics. For this reason the tower is designed out of "shkambis" – traditional wooden stools that have been in use in Kosovo for over 10 000 years. By @NovozhilovaM ENG
Colorful and fluffy carpet is the main characteristic of the Dominican Republic Pavilion at the 14th Venice Biennale of Architecture. This bright and playful interior is a pretest to talk about “fair concrete” or, better, about other "finer" materials but bare cement, that used to be the symbol of the modernization of the country and therefore the primary construction material . On the occasion of the 14th Biennale of architecture curated by Rem Koolhaas, the Kingdom of Bahrain presented an installation that is an architecture, a furniture, mentality and transparency at the same time. The full height book shelf filled with books separates pavilion’s interior and exterior while drawing comfortable inside space that infinitely rotates around the central table.

To express the essence of Yamaha’s brand, Japan’s leading general musical instrument manufacturer, and materialize its architectural design, the basic themes of this architecture are set out to be “a building that exudes the feel of sound and music” and “the union of tradition and innovation”. IT

First you cross a tall gate to enter to a manufacturing courtyard. Turn left. Then, while climbing a narrow stair and observing the patio from a progressively higher and higher point of view, you discover many wired details: something that looks like a suspended in the air tree, an enormous thrown down hollow tree trunk and other scattered all over the place strange stuff. Examining a little better, it appears clear that what seemed a tree bark a moment ago is actually an art metalwork. Right. We are at Foundry Battaglia. ENG
There is a great surprise hidden somewhere in the heart of Milan. Concealed behind a solid wall, Villa Necchi Campiglio is open for visits. The residence is rather a country house peacefully residing by a sapphire pool, in the middle of emerald garden. Designed by Piero Portaluppi (1888-1967) in 1932 (and completed in 1935), the Villa charms with its every detail: single decorations, characteristic colors, noble materials and sophisticated shrewdness. 3.000 euros is required daily to maintain the tales that an incredible modern building has to recite us today. 7.000.000 euros were invested into the restoration of the historical evidence of Milanese architecture the Thirties in 2001. Incredible! The house was inhabited by its owners - Necchi Campiglio family - up till that moment! Died at age of 100 in 2001 the last proprietor Gigina Necchi (her husband Angelo Campiglio died much earlier in 1984, and her sister Nedda who lived with them died in 1993), having no heir, left the house to the Italian National Trust FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano). Since then, the Villa has been refurbished and open to public, to special events and even to movie-makers. Directed by Luca Guadagnino and released in 2009, “I Am Love” nicely exploits the beauty and chic of the mansion, prompting a desire to visit the house and to enjoy its uniqueness. Restored House and Workshop at Enzo Ferrari Museum. The two-storey house and workshop built by Ferrari’s father in the 1830s has been completely refurbished. The main gallery space is located within what was the double height workshop. Here Shiro Studio has designed a contemporary exhibition display system, which incorporates digital projections, objects owned by Ferrari, information panels and other material. The display system was conceived as a large-scale vertical book that allows the visitor to read the different chapters of Ferrari’s life through various media; a three-dimensional immersive biography. The system takes the form of a sinuous wall separated into pages, so that as visitors progress down the room, they are obliged to gradually discover each page and chapter in sequence. At every point the next chapter is concealed so as to maintain interest and create a sense of excitement. This organic landscape stretches through the entire length of the 40 metre long space and soft, low-level backlighting gently illuminates both it and the room, making the space intimate in spite of its size.
