This wooden vase is a simple trunk of birch shaped by fire. It was burnt. The result of this “primitive” and “slow” design practice is a black charcoal bowl with a radiocentric, naturally gouged out pattern. It is amazingly black and amazingly smooth.
The bark, once trimmed off, has revealed a curvilinear tracery of wood. Indeed what we believe to be a uniform and geometric set of tree rings is a living body that sensually reacts on the ever-changing context. By definition it cannot have perfectly regular form. Yet, in this irregularity lies its perfection.
