“Mood – Object” is an exhibition dedicated to the works of Chinese designers. It is a spiritual spot at Fuorisalone at University of Milan (in via Festa del Perdono, 7). The furniture at the exhibition is based on a deeply-rooted belief in Asian culture that the materials that surround us are derived from our minds and reflected through the objects we create. The pieces on display are meant to be a mirror of the spirituality, mind and soul of the designers who created them.

What keeps me impressed the most about Italy, and more in particular about Milan, is the interest and the great attention that people pay here to art, architecture and design. These matters are not a part of a business chain (advertise-sell), but rather essential features that deeply rooted into the local culture, into the Italian DNA. Here one should not be a designer or an architect to attend special events and to be updated on a very specific topics. Surprisingly, anybody have enough curiosity to see, to learn, to discover.

Only few weeks are left before the Expo 2015 will start. Milan has been waiting and getting ready for this day since some years. As a consequence, the city has changed and its architecture has drastically renewed its look. In my opinion and with no doubt positively! ENG
While the public attention is focused on the Milano Fashion Week, another part of the city is getting ready for the up-coming Expo. Yesterday, Saturday February 28th, the entire city had a lot of fun sowing wheat field under the skyscrapers of Porta Nuova, a new high-rise development just grown up at the heart of Milan. This environmental artwork is titled "Wheatfield", and it is conceived by the American artist Agnes Denes (1931). Very soon, only some months later, we will see, in fact, the results of today’s effort. Once the wheat is sprout from the ground, the park will become an experimental stage with a quite unusual rural panorama in the heart of the new skyscraper district of Milan. Later, however, once the Universal Exposition is over, it will be transformed into “Biblioteca degli Alberi” (“A library of Trees”), a public park focused on the biodiversity of local flora.

However, Milan can surprise even the expert travelers whose itinerary goal is the architectural and historical heritage of Italy. Turning a corner and escaping shopping streets of Milan, one can find many historical treasures often hidden behind not-so-appealing facades. ENG
Expo Gate is a new temporary architecture in the heart of Milan. It was officially open on May 11th of this year and it will be disassembled in November of the next year, once Expo 2015 is ended. In the meantime it works as the Expo’s city info point and landmark, as a meeting point and as a spot for numerous cultural events. Expo Gate is located just in the heart of historical Milan on the pedestrian axis that links Duomo (the Cathedral) and Castello Sforzesco (the Castle). ENG
Since two millenniums Italian architecture keeps amaze the entire world. The architectural capitals have been always moving from one place to another. Yet, Italian cities were always on the list. We all know such masterpieces as Roman Coliseum (80 AD), Venetian Piazza San Marco (1100), Leaning Tower of Pisa (1372) and Florence Cathedral (1436). Indeed, Italy is probably the only country that has been able to preserve since the beginning of time the title of the architectural heart of the globe and to stay up to date. The new century is not an exception. ENG
What do you know about copper? Although each of us has an idea about this golden-looking material, probably no one can actually realize the real importance and the whole multiplicity of its uses. Art, design, architecture, industry and technology: all largely employ the copper. Its unique properties make this material simply irreplaceable. It is resistant. Yet it is ductile and malleable too. Thus while diligently serving for technical purposes in some engineering works, it can easily change the form under the master hand of an artist.

The Japanese always sell fruits piece by piece. They have long realized that each of them is a work of art. Thus, the Apple Throne is not a work of art. It is made to host a work of art.

No name design is a small yet suggestive exhibition at Triennale di Milano open from June, 19 to September 14. It explores and compares small and, in a way, trivial objects that, however, teach us a good design providing interesting and helpful hints. The collection of more than 1000 no-design objects investigates such topics as “mono-block mon amour” (monoblocco mon amour), “made and counterfeited” (fatto e contrafatto), “handles and grips” (per una buona presa), “hammer and mallet” (colpo su colpo), “open and close” (apri e chiudi), “parts to be connected” (parti da collegare), “as clear as daylight” (chiaro come il sole), “everything is inside” (tutto dentro), “big, small and big again” (grande, piccolo e di nuovo grande), “rethink it again” (nuovo? no, migliore) and many others… By Maria Novozhilova 073.
