Austria has been always present on the world’s design scene with its imaginative ideas and inventive proposals. And this year, its creative legacy has been replenished by some new, fresh and funky achievements!
Exploring new design territories, investigating on the new concepts, shapes, materials and production methods, and pushing boundaries of contemporary design further toward the future & futuristic dimensions young Austrian designers and their current exhibition on Milano Design Week, no doubt, have enriched the lexicon and the state of art of the modern furniture industry.

Exploring new design territories, investigating on the new concepts, shapes, materials and production methods, and pushing boundaries of contemporary design further toward the future & futuristic dimensions young Austrian designers and their current exhibition on Milano Design Week, no doubt, have enriched the lexicon and the state of art of the modern furniture industry.
Indeed! Their visionary works on show at “Austrian Design Pioneers” space is a must-see spot of Milanese Fuorisalone of this year. Their huge and inspiring exhibition hall can be easily found in the heart of Brera Design District.
“Baron” is a light and eco-friendly lounge chair for indoor and outdoor use. Air cushion bags made of polypropylene were used for the seats. A seat cover made of fabric, leather or imitation leather give the chair its high-end look. The frame is made of steel.
The material used for “The Bolognese” is a historical floor panel made of oak saved from a villa in Bologna built around 1850. The polyhedrons that were produced provide a great visual illusion where the object’s geometry mingles with the 2-dimentional parquet patterns.
Dejana Kabiljo’s furniture designs take inspiration from people with peculiar habits and obsessions. She uses materials that are burnt, bleached, crimped, split, bent and so on until the pieces fit into place. Fe/Zn is a protest in object form. The bare spring coils cut into the flesh of the user.
“Scattered Servant” is made from 130-year-old star parquet panel flooring salvaged from a Viennese piano nobile. The designers broke down the floor’s original symmetry and rearranged its basic modular components. The result remains, however, true to the floor’s original aesthetic quality.
